Artist Steven McGovney uses hand forged and cast elements to create unique designs in Sterling Silver.  Steven cuts and polishes most of his own stones, occasionally purchasing custom cabachons from other lapidary artists when a particular stone is integral to a custom design. 

Steven has worked in ceramic sculpture for most of his career, and also designs jewelry when a chronic elbow condition required a break from the heavy lifting in ceramics.  He found the change enervating, the new medium unleashing a creative challenge that has stimulated him to move in a whole new direction.  The ability to cut his own stones allows him to perfectly match the stones to the design in  silver.
Steven was nominated for a 2010 NICHE award in the category of Silver with Stones.

His ceramic work is in several national collections, and he teaches at the college level and gives workshops nationally.
